Can Christians be involved in evangelism but not in discipleship?

Can Christians be involved in evangelism but not in discipleship?

Is it OK for Christians to be involved in evangelism but not in discipleship? IE: Is it OK to go out and sow the seed of the Gospel and even to make converts but to not be involved in the ongoing discipleship of the converts?

Re: Can Christians be involved in evangelism but not in discipleship?

The five fold ministry is for the building up of the church until we grow into the fullness of Christ
Christ was an evangelist, preacher, teacher
As we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us, then why not discipleship too?
I've just started a training in divine healing for people who I have mostly met on the street and other street evangelists

Hi Pixelevan,

I was interested to see your mention about healing in evangelism. I started doing this myself a couple of years ago and now have a British healing resource website: Jesus Heals

My blog of local adventures is here: Jesus Is Healing Today

I created a page of encouragement to heal in evangelism on my other site here:
"Reach The Lost The Biblical Way"

I added the page to that site as it is aimed at discipling new Christian believers.

That's exciting preachandheal!
I will have a better look at your sites later
I noticed you reference john g lake ministries
We are currently teaching the Divine Healing Technician course - which I mentioned in my first post
The group is really enjoying it
There were six of us the first week with five added the second week which just passed.
Four of the five were people who had been brought by their friend.

Do you have any information on how your HOTS team works?
We recently ran another DHT training at my place and I feel like I need to get this group out there.....

Re: Can Christians be involved in evangelism but not in discipleship?

Hi pixelevan,

when doing HOTS (Healing on The Streets)here in England we meet around 9.00am in a local church for a time of prayer and worship. We then set off around 10.00 (until 1.00) with our 8 foot high banner saying "Healing", which mounts on a water-filled base for stability.

We set out three simple wooden chairs for "customers" to use, plus a pair of kneeling pads for those ministering, one each side of each chair. We hand out leaflets to passers-by detailing who we are, and why we're there, with our website address. As we pray and walk around, we approach folk and invite them to take a seat and receive prayer. Some come for prayer, others will stay and  chat about spiritual things. Many will walk past with no interest in what we offer. Quite a few have mentioned they had healing in the past. Nearly always it was from Spiritualist churches or Reiki practitioners. Like Spiritualism, Reiki is demonic in origin and there is no such thing as "Christian Reiki" despite some advertising it as such.

Each time we minister we record in our notebook the person's name, their problem and what happened during the chat/prayer. We give them the booklet "Why Jesus?" to take away and a letter explaining what we did and how they might respond to what happened to them.

Our greatest difficulty was getting the local council to agree to what we wanted. They suggested we do it inside a local hall (!) but we refused. Eventually (about 9 months altogether)we got approval to set up and minister in a town centre street.

I've sent you a PM with more information about HOTS training. It's very similar to what Curry Blake teaches in his DHT (Divine Healing Technician) course.

I recently came across a website for a ministry that sells and uses portable prayer booths. They set up these stands in public places and wear brightly branded clothes for their prayer ministry. It's called Prayer Stop. I think they are in a few countries but definitely the USA. I haven't seen them in person and I don't know anyone who is involved but it looked like a good way to boldly minister on the streets.
